Q: How do we find the boat?

A: The Schooner Jeanie B sails from the Sheraton Hotel and Marina on the New Bern Waterfront. From all directions, follow signs to downtown New Bern.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Casual clothes and/or whatever is comfortable for you.  The temperature on the water is usually 5 to 10 degrees less than on land so please take this into consideration. Soft-soled shoes are also highly recommended but not mandatory.

Q: How fast does the Schooner Jeanie B go?

A: It all depends on the wind and weather conditions for the day, but the average cruising spend for the boat is usually somewhere between 4 to 6 knots.

Q: What do we do if there is not enough wind for sailing?

A: The Schooner Jeanie B is equipped with an inboard engine, so the option is available to motor-sail.

 Q:  Do we have a restroom onboard?

A: Yes, the boat is equipped with two, and on boats they are referred to as the head.

Q: Is the ship wheelchair accessible?

A: Yes, for folding wheelchairs only. The crew will lift the person on to the boat.

Q: Are any areas of the ship air-conditioned?

A: Yes, certain areas of the ship are but the units can only be run while the ship is not under way.

Q: Are any areas of the ship covered?

A: Guests can go below decks or stay under the shadow of the sails to help keep out of the sun if necessary.

 Q: Are children welcome aboard?

A: Yes, but please provide an appropriate life vest for them if under 50 pounds.

Q: Are pets allowed on board?

A: Yes, if they are small and people friendly.

Q: May we bring our own food and drinks on board?

A: You may bring whatever food or drinks on board you wish.  Food and drinks may also be provided for your cruise if pre-arranged.

Q: What happens if the weather is too bad for our trip?

A: We cancel if the weather is raining, lightening, and/or extremely windy. Arrangements will then be made for a rescheduled trip or refund.

Q: What do we do and where do we go?

A: It all depends on what you are looking to do and the time you are looking to do it in. If you ask before hand, we will attempt to accommodate all realistic requests.

Q: Do we see dolphins?

A: Some of the time.

Q: Is there any narration or instruction?

A: Once on board, the captain and crew will introduce themselves and provide a brief safety orientation in order to help you become acclimated with the ship and her amenities. And if you wish, the captain and crew will be more than happy to explain and involve you as much as you’d like during your exciting voyage aboard the Jeanie B!
